Breaking the loop

You know when you get a thought that you don't like, or a thought that is kind of negatively charged. When you are at home for instance, or doing whatver there comes a time when a negative thought comes, well that happens to me. A thought about the past or future. So how do we at that moment, at that precise moment, when you are feeling that you are going to tense up, when you are feeling that you are kind of going to fall into that rabbit hole, how do we break the loop? how do we escape that thought at that moment. There are ways, but to keep in short, I think gratitude will bring you closer to the essence, it will break the loop at that moment. Whenever you get those thoughts say thank you for the good and bad.
